Similar are the markets.  They are also like 'CHOPCHINI' --- they keep people busy for hours, day, weeks even years from the day one just tasted it.

I'm Deepak Verma, a data analyst by profession from North India and being stable in this profession from past 21 years. In the month of January 2018, one of my colleague asked me, "Why don't you try analyzing Indian markets data. You being buried all day in numbers, that huge dataset might prove you a good learning." I politely refused, and ignored his question and went on daily chores.

Few days passed, and he again knocked me,  "Hey, the markets had been cruel to me, i'm on a losing streak, based on your data skills, can you advice?"  I said, "what is to be done? I din't know even ABC of it. Show me."  We both went to his desk, and he showed his invested portfolio, with an expression that he was making a good money earlier in it and now they are Negative, what to do now?  I again politely enquired from him that what is this and how this all is done.  He summarized me about Demat account and give very brief description of intraday trading and how you can make money in minutes.

Seems interesting, I flirted through the internet, went to Zerodha discount broker site and opened a trading-cum-demat account. By next day, I put in 5000 rupees in the account and sat with him, "now what", I said.  He said, "nothing, just look for a good company & buy".  I only remembered TCS (Tata consultancy service) as a 'good company' and placed it in watchlist. The price was "Green". Without any second thought i clicked to buy 100 shares of TCS (of course with leverage) and the price went up.  "+Rs.101 profit", was displayed on screen and he said, "EXIT".  I clicked exit and ended up with +Rs.101 profit in my account.  Now balance showing Rs.5101.35.

Wow.. that's amazing.. 2 mintues and Rs.101 positive.. and it takes 8 hours (or more) to earn Rs.1000 salary per day. The calculation is good. He said, "See, that is easy.  Now analyse it & help me also". It was hallucinating. I lost my work that day & keep on seeing "+Rs.101" in the trading terminal.

Traffic Lights

What I learnt from traffic lights? It was a pleasant day at office and I was commuting to home. In my mind, I was playing charts and recalling the trading screen.  I stopped on traffic lights and there was enough time of around 1.5 minute on my side. Opposite side traffic is also halted. Suddenly, I see movement in the opposite side traffic, their traffic light signal might be turning "Green".  The two-wheelers started in the first gear, followed by small cars and instantly a massive traffic just passed through my opposite side. Now, imaging this on trading charts. Price is halted zig-zag within a range from a long-time, then, suddenly you see small green candles joining up making little-little higher low than previous candle.  Then, suddenly you see a BIG LONG green candle which indicates BREAKOUT of the range and eventually, everyone (all traffic) joins it, making the price moving higher & higher. Chopchini Tasted... Enlightment begins

.. continued from previous post ; Next day, the balance on the terminal shows Rs.4555/-. Shocked. I was in profit (Rs.101) yesterday, how come it came down Rs.445/-. Where is my profit? Why I'm being shown less capital? Googled it and found the term "Brokerage". Even though I was in profit yesterday, but as I generated a turnover of around 17 lacs, therefore, I was charged a brokerage+taxes of Rs.445 (less my profit). Holy crap!  how is this calculated?  My data mind came in action. Opened an excel, downloaded the order book from zerodha and made a sheet of brokerage calculator (as under) to monitor it. The first day trade was done on 22nd January 2018 and at the close of month, I lost 3760/- from the initial 5000 rupees in my account. SAD, but true.
